At long last the tide was low this morning, and I was able to walk on the beach without struggling over a rutted moonscape. It was sunny, the lower part of the beach beautiful and despite a blustery head-wind from the northwest I made it all the way to where Oakleigh Ave almost reaches the beach, at the Woodcliff Park community - a distance of nearly 2 miles. And on the last half of the walk there were no vehicles and almost no ruts - magnificent. Beyond the wrecks there were a couple of fisherman quietly enjoying the morning, but they had left not a trace of garbage. Here are few pics and vids:
On the way back the only vehicle was a police "bay constable" truck. He stopped to talk to the fishermen. They said he told them they needed a license to fish - which is not exactly true. However apparently they do need to "register" to fish. Not sure whether he asks white guys with trucks whether they are registered. Personally I'm more upset by the garbage (and traffic and ruts) than by the fishermen (though they sometimes go together). This morning there was very little garbage, probably because several days of rain kept people off the beach, but there was some:
