Congratulations Reeves Beach-goers! - you left far less trash on the beach on the Fourth than I expected - this morning I collected only 1 tall kitchen bagful of trash, the same as a usual day, though there was lots of people and cars on the beach yesterday - including these guys, driving a car at 5 pm, which in summer is illegal before 6 pm.
There were lots of impressive fireworks, but almost all the debris was gone in the early morning. Unfortunately the explosions continued throughout the night well after midnight, until at least 4 pm. Although fireworks are illegal in NY, the police rightly turn a blind eye (and ear) on the 4th of july. But we should respect their courtesy to us by ensuring that NO FIREWORKS are used other than on the fourth. Waking people up at 3.30 am (and continuing to 4 am) is foolish, unfair, rude and moronic.
