There's a great article in today's NY Times about Horn Island in the Gulf of Mexico. It's difficult to get to and relatively unspoiled - but even there there's "an onslaught of ocean garbage" on the beach (and there's a ton of trash on Everest too). My view is that if you cannot respect it you should stay away from it. After a day away from Reeves Beach there's quite an onslaught here too:
