Just above Reeves Beach is a wonderful nature preserve owned by the Peconic Land Trust. With their permission I sometimes walk up the narrow valleys that furrow the magnificent high bluffs and look at the amazing dwarf beech trees there, in the area known as the Grandifolia Sandhills.
But the beech is less pristine:
